Caliph Umar (RA) and the False Testimony

Caliph Umar (RA) and the Case of a False Testimony

Caliph Umar Courtroom Incident

During the caliphate of Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA), a legal case was brought before his court. Two individuals stepped forward to testify. Caliph Umar (RA) immediately rejected the testimony of one of them.

Surprised, the man asked why his testimony was being dismissed. Umar (RA) responded:

"I cannot accept your testimony because I saw you lying in Makkah. A person who can lie in one place, can lie elsewhere too."

Hearing this, the second witness trembled and withdrew his statement. This story demonstrates how Islam upholds the value of truth and honesty. A dishonest person, regardless of their position, is not accepted as a reliable witness.
